I have been involved in swimming since I was a child and began competitive swimming in 1999. In 2001, I worked as an assistant coach for summer league teams and I began teaching lessons as a full-time summer job in 2002, both privately and through programs such as ASCA's (American Swimming Coaches Association) Swim America. I have served as an assistant coach and head coach on three separate summer league teams in different areas of Virginia and I have been involved with four different year-round swim clubs over the past 8 years. I have taught lessons to children as young as 1 years old and coached adults well in their 70s. In May 2009, I graduated from Virginia Tech with a B.S. in Mathematics and a B.S. in Statistics.
Most of my ideas on stroke technique, training, and developing fitness have come from my personal experience over the years as a swimmer and coach, as well as from literature and mentoring under more experienced coaches. I strongly believe that swimming is the best sport available. Swimmers learn the rewards of setting goals and working hard to achieve them, having fun while learning, sportsmanship, and dedication.
I came to SWAT, now H2okie Aquatics, in January 2005, where I trained and competed with the team for four years. In December 2007, I began coaching the Junior Group at H2okie Aquatics. I am very passionate about both the sport and activity of swimming, and coaching H2okie Aquatics offers me the opportunity to share my love of swimming with the swimmers and families I work with. My goal for every swimmer I coach is to help him or her achieve everything they desire in this sport, whether that is an Olympic Gold medal or a fun afterschool sport.
